Monday evening, the Lady Lancers Volleyball team hosted Bloomfield Christian School in a non-conference match. The Lancers got off to a quick start and dispatched the visiting Defenders in straight sets, 25-10, 25-15, 25-15. In doing so, the Lancers stretched their winning streak to three matches.
In what might have been the Lancers best performance of the season, Katie Hopkins had a nearly flawless night. As a setter, she had 17 assists on 55 sets without an error. Serving, Katie registered one ace on 9 serves without an error. Add to that four kills on eight attacks and a pair of blocks.
Outside hitters Kaylee Page and Hailee Ide paired up to make 10 and 5 kills respectively. Hailee also led the team with five service aces. Co-captains, Antonina “Beana” Lucido and Grace Shelata, led the team with 10 and 7 digs respectively. After the contest, Grace Shelata said, ” I think our aggressive hits really brought up our intensity and confidence tonight.” Beana Lucido added, “we have matured immensely as a team since August and that was shining brightly tonight.”
With the victory over Bloomfield Christian, the young Lancer squad improved their record to 7-10-2. They are looking forward to hosting Macomb Christian at 6:30 PM on Thursday night when they will attempt to stretch their record to 4-0 in conference play.
