Boys Varsity Basketball · Lancers Defeat WOLL 53-46 in Home Opener

The Oakland Christian Lancers began the 2017-2018 season with a win. The Lancers entertained the visiting Lakers of Waterford Our Lady on Monday night in the home opener. It was a rematch of the 2017 MHSAA District finals game in which the Lancers prevailed. In this game, the Lancers jumped out to a 16-7 1st quarter lead on the backs of the Siminski brothers and Ryder Patterson. Josh led all 1st quarter scorers with 6 points followed by Ryder’s 5 points before leaving the game in early foul trouble. Daniel Siminski began his varsity career with an early 3-pointer in the 1st quarter which got him started on his way to 8 points in his debut.

Unfortunately, the Lancers went a little cold from the floor in the second and were outscored by the Lakers 12-11. The deficit could have been greater if not for the shooting of Noah Ford and Kyle Barba combining for three 3-pointers which were the only field goals of the second quarter for the Lancers. The Lancer defense was up to the task led by Seth Williams and Noah Ford holding the scoring duo of Ross and Robak to only a combined 6 points with no 3-point field goals in the first half. The Lancers went into halftime with a 27-19 lead

Ross and Robak would not be held down. The Laker duo came out guns a blazing and quickly hit shots and jumped on the Lancers taking a one-point lead on a Grant Ross 3-pointer early in the third quarter. The game went back and forth between the two district rivals as the score at the end of the third quarter was 40-39 with the Lancers on top.

In the fourth quarter, it was all Lancers as the boys in white held the Lakers to 7 points in the fourth while scoring 15 points themselves. The final score Lancers 53 and the Lakers of Waterford Our Lady 46. The Lakers were led by Noah Robak with 16 points. Grant Ross and Jacob Theirry both had 8 points on the night. The Lancers were led by Noah Ford with 16 points and Ryder Patterson with 14.

The Lancers will go on the road to Everest Collegiate Friday night to play game three of a tripleheader at 7:30 p.m.
