The varsity boys’ basketball team defeated Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes on Friday night at Oakland Christian to win the MHSAA District Championship.
The Lancers advanced to the district championship with their semi-final win over Roeper. The Lakers advanced with a win over Everest in their semi-final. With the stage set, the cross-town rivals were set to do battle in the MHSAA District Championship.
The Lakers of Our Lady started strong taking a first-quarter lead 12-8 under the lead of Robak and Ross. Even though the Lakers had the lead the Lancers forced the Lakers to take difficult shots. The Lancers’ great defensive effort was led by Seth Williams and Noah Ford. The Lancers bounced back in the second quarter to tie the game at 20 just before halftime on a free throw by Noah Ford.
With halftime adjustments made the Lancers came out strong in the third quarter led by the offensive play of Ryder Patterson. Ryder added 18 points in the third quarter of his second half 30 points on way to a game-high 38 points on the night. The Lancers were able to jump out to a 10 point lead with the help of Seth Williams and Josh Siminski on the glass. Derrick Dysart and Dan Siminski joined Ryder Patterson in the fourth quarter to close out the game by going 15 of 17 from the free throw line. With the 62-46 win, the Lancer win back-to-back district championships and sixth since 2008.
Lancers move on to face Southfield Christian Monday night at 5:00 p.m. at Marine City Cardinal Mooney.
