The Lady Lancers lost a close battle with league rival Inter-City Baptist 6-5. It wasn’t until the 4th inning that either team scored. Inter-City started the top of the inning with two runs off of one hit and a couple of errors by the Lancers. Oakland fought back with two of their own. Rebekah Crane earned a walk, stole a base, and scored on an RBI single by Mackenzie Saylor. Autumn Maley knocked in Saylor on a fielder’s choice. No more runs would score until the 6th inning when Inter-City opened up the game with 3 runs in the top with an error, a single, and an inside the park home-run blast down the right field line.The Lancers would not give up and rallied with three more runs to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th. Mackenzie Saylor would open the inning with her third hit of the game and Olivia Young would replace her on the base paths as a courtesy runner for the catcher. She would eventually score along with Nicole Vaught, who got on with a base hit ,and Jackie Hagar, forced an error with a hard hit ball.Both pitchers kept dueling with Rebekah Crane earning 11 strike-outs, giving up no walks, and 6 hits and Inter-City’s pitcher earning 9 strike-outs for the win. In the top of the 7th – Inter City’s first batter came up with a clutch single to start the inning and advanced to second base on an error during the following at bat, stole 3B and scored on a fielder’s choice. The Lancers would put themselves in position to come back again when Allison Brzezinski led off with a single up the middle, but would be thrown out stealing second base. With two outs and the Lancers hopes dwindling, Mackenzie Saylor earned a walk to the give the team new life and would advance to second on a single by Nicole Vaught. Unfortunately, the game ended on a strike-out.The Division 3 Lancers fall to 2-2 on the season and next face a Division 2 opponent in Notre Dame Prep on Thursday at 4:30 at Notre Dame.
Mackenzie Saylor had 3 hits, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Nicole Vaught had 2 hits, 2 runs scored. Jackie Hagar had a hit and an RBI. Allison Brzezinski had a hit and Olivia Williams smacked a line-drive hit into the right center gap for her first hit of the game.
