Girls Varsity Basketball · Young Lady Lancers Back on the Court

The Lady Lancers will be back on the court Monday, January 7 at 7:00 pm at Parkway Christian.

The Lady Lancers entered the break on a win over Bloomfield Christian moving their record to 2-4. The young Lady Lancers have had a good start considering their conditions. The Lancer team is made up off 6 returning players and 8 freshmen. The infusion of players has allowed the Lancers to add back some JV games allowing for more experience for the Lady Lancers only helping the program moving forward.

The Lancers started the season by hosting Everest Collegiate a team that had defeated the Lancers by 24 points the year before. The young Lady Lancers battled to a last minute lose by only 3 points – 43-40. In game 2 the Lancers welcomed Plymouth Christian. Lead by Danielle Hopkins 20 points, the Lancer fell short of just short 44-39. The Lancers were off to Sacred Heart where everyone got into the mix. The Lancers were led by Danielle Hopkins 16 points as every player joined in on the battle as the Lancers won 38-21. Back home for Game 4, the Lancers welcomed upper division opponent Lutheran Northwest. The Lancers struggled with the pressure and fell short 41-30. The Lancers were led by freshman Alaina Franey with 16 points. Off to Cranbrook where the young Lancers missing a starter battled an experienced and proven Cranbrook team. Led by the scoring of Alaina Franey (17 points) and Danielle Hopkins (14 points), the Lancers fought to the very end coming up just short 44-40. The final game before Christmas break was Bloomfield Christian on the road. The Lady Lancer found themselves in an early hole down 27-19 at halftime only staying within striking distance on the free throw shooting of Claire Rau. They stood strong and mounted a comeback led by Danielle Hopkins that scored 17 of her 20 points on the night in the second half. Micah Tison worked hard on the glass with 14 rebounds and Claire Rau had 6 assists as she tried to run the team. Alaina Franey also added 16 points on the night as the Lancers were able to pull off the comeback for the 49-44 victory.
