On Friday night the Southfield Christian Eagles traveled to Oakland Christian for a battle between first and second place in the conference standings. The Lady Lancers sat just one game up on the Eagles. The Lady Lancers had traveled to Southfield Christian earlier in the year and left victorious 42-20. It was now time for the showdown. A win by the Eagles would mean a share of first place between the two teams as they both try to finish out the season without losing again. A win by the Lancers would guarantee the Lancers a share of the conference championship, and with the one win in the last two conference contests, the Lady Lancers would hold the title alone.
With a gym full of nerves on the Lancers side, the Eagles struck first with a 3 pointer by Callahan. The Lancers then went on a 13-2 run to complete the quarter with Danielle Hopkins scoring 11 of her game-high 22 points on the night. The game was a defensive battle as it entered halftime 16-9. The Lady Lancers continued their defensive pressure on the Eagles holding top scorers for the Eagles Callahan to 5 points and Hunter 8 points on the night as they held the Eagles to 17% from the floor including 5% from behind the arc.
The Lancers were led by Danielle Hopkins with 22 points and closed out the game from the free throw line, Micah Tison with 7 points, and Alaina Franey with 2 points. The Lady Lancers travel to Huron Valley on Thursday, February 14 for a chance to win the conference title outright.
