The OCS Women’s Soccer Team began district play on Tuesday as they hosted fellow MIAC school, Lutheran Northwest in the MHSAA Division 4 District Semifinal. Both teams came out aggressively and had an even match throughout the first half.
In the 33rd minute, Senior Haley Redfern scored on a pass from freshman Sophia Lucido to put the Lancers up 1-0. In the 40th minute, Lucido placed the ball in the upper 90 on a shot from outside the penalty area to put OCS up 2-0 as both teams entered halftime. Credit Senior Jessica Carmean for the assist.
In the second half, the Crusaders applied pressure to try to get on the scoreboard but the OCS defense and sophomore goalkeeper Emilia Scafone withstood the attack and were able to keep Lutheran Northwest scoreless.
Haley Redfern continued the scoring with another goal off a corner kick from Senior Katie Muzljakovich to put OCS 3-0. Redfern netted the hat trick off another Muzljakovich assist to put OCS up for good 4-0 as the final horn sounded!
