Thursday night, in a gym filled with raucous volleyball fans, Oakland Christian hosted the Lakers from Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes in the Division 4 District Finals. After a hard fought battle that went back and forth, the Lakers came out with a victory, three sets to two. Lakes will move on to Regional play next week, and the Lancers’ season comes to an abrupt halt.
The OCS student body turned out in huge numbers to cheer on the Lancer team. The young group of Lancers rode that emotion to a 17-11 lead before the Lakers went on a run, eventually winning the first set, 25-21.
In the second set, the Lancers again jumped out to an early lead, but this time, they never looked back, taking a 25-20 victory. The Lancers continued to roll in the third set and scored a 25-17 win to take a 2 sets to 1 lead.
But Lakes wasn’t going to go that easily. They adjusted their lineup, moving a middle hitter to outside and that move paid dividends. Lakes won the fourth set, 25-15, and took the deciding fifth set, 15-10.
The Lancers played well as a team and fought to the end. Kaylee Page led the team with 18 kills. Anna Frazee added 13 kills, Micah Tison had 5, and Presley Rowland had 4. Katie Hopkins had 33 assists on the night. Micah Tison led the defense with 20 digs, and Hailee Ide added 12 digs. Olivia Colletti had 10 digs and led the team with 22 serves.
The Lancers finished the season with a record of 30-13-3 and along the way, won the Parkway Christian Tournament and were the undefeated champions of the MIAC Red Conference.
