Beating a rival three times in a season is a difficult task, but that is what faced the Oakland Christian volleyball team on Tuesday night in the District Semifinals. With Novi Christian’s only two defeats in the MIAC Red conference coming at the hands of OCS, the Warriors had revenge on their mind. But the Lancers were intent on advancing to the District Finals and prevailed with a three set victory, 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.
As the match began, OCS took a 3-0 lead and never looked back, maintaining a narrow margin for a 25-21 first set victory. The second and third sets were never in doubt as the Lancers rode the emotion from the large and boisterous home crowd to an easy victory.
Kaylee Page set the tone with 6 big kills in the first set and 10 kills for the match. Katie Hopkins had 20 assists on the night. A quartet of freshmen played a big role in the win as well. Micah Tison led the defensive effort with 9 digs and threw in 6 kills for good measure. Anna Frazee registered 7 kills, Presley Rowland had 5 kills, and Olivia Colletti had three aces and 23 serves.
OCS improved their record to 30-12-3 on the season and advances to face Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes in the District Finals on Thursday at 6:00.
